JavaScript developer—React

Dot Health

We're early-stage, venture-backed, and founded by passionate Canadian tech veterans, formerly of Wealthsimple and Shopify. We're committed to changing the face of healthcare while building the company we always wanted to work at. We're building a team of collaborative, self-directed professionals to help us empower Canadians with their own health data.

We have a JavaScript-heavy tech stack with a Node API, react web client, and react native iOS app. We're looking for a client-side JavaScript developer with React experience to help build and maintain both clients. We have working MVPs but we need someone to help us take them to the next level, and implement scalable practices as we build features. This role comes with a large amount of technical responsibility—we'll expect you to make and implement decisions about the front-end stack, including frameworks, libraries, and build tools, and be able to back up your opinions. You'll be working with a UI developer, designers, and an API developer to build new features and refine our user experience, and helping to develop requirements and build out the roadmap for our product.

Things you'll be doing:

  • Building new features into both our web and mobile clients
  • Selecting and implementing state-management strategies
  • Maintaining and improving front-end tooling
  • Ensuring code and product quality with reviews and automated testing
  • Improving internal tools for administrators
  • Ensuring our clients run smoothly on a variety of devices
  • Optimizing client-side performance
  • Learning about and contributing to server-side development
  • Gaining and applying domain knowledge in healthcare
  • Understanding and contributing to security and privacy practices

We're dedicated to building a supportive and healthy work environment, we won't demand long hours or unreasonable deadlines. However, this is a startup, so you'll be working with loosely defined requirements and less oversight in a high trust, high expectations environment.

Dot Health is committed to building a safe and diverse workplace culture that is representative of our audience. We encourage applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, including aboriginal persons, francophones, persons with family care giving responsibilities, members of sexual minority groups, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and women to apply!

This position is on-site in our Toronto office.
