BookNet Canada is looking for a Software Developer!
We are a community of people who care deeply about the future of Canada’s book industry. By joining our Developer team, you will help create and improve the technology that makes it easier for booksellers, publishing houses, and other stakeholders to promote and sell books, reach new audiences, and embrace new technologies. You’ll develop and maintain small- and medium-sized web applications that solve some of our clients’ most pressing challenges, help them to meet the demands of a changing industry, and prepare for the future.
What you’ll do: - Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders to turn ideas into complete solutions - Maintain and manage products that have been defined by and built for our stakeholders - Work alongside a team to develop web applications using the Microsoft .NET platform, with opportunities to be creative with external APIs and Chrome plugins - Recommend ideas that you think will improve our products and then help to make them happen
Who you’ll work with: - You’ll be a part of our small, nimble development team - Reporting to the Director of Software Development - Collaborating with the Director of Product Development and Project Managers to identify solutions for stakeholders' problems - Working alongside BookNet’s development team
You’ll love this role if you: - Like to participate fully in all aspects of the software development life cycle, from idea generation through to implementation and maintenance, and enjoy working on code - Enjoy working within a collaborative, multi-functional team - Thrive with autonomy - Seek opportunities to learn and apply it to everyday work
And, if you have any of these, that’s a bonus: - Verbal and written proficiency in English and French - Good organization skills with attention to detail - Experience with source control systems (e.g., Git) - Experience with MongoDB - Experience with IIS management and configuration
How you’ll benefit:
When you join our small, dedicated team of great people, you will see that we have a serious commitment to work/life balance and our physical environment is super important to us. We work out of a beautiful converted factory space in 401 Richmond in the heart of Queen West & Spadina, complete with a green roof, bike parking, and art around every corner.
We'll offer a fair and competitive salary, medical and dental benefits, summer hours, flexible work times (including the ability to work from home on occasion), RSP matching, and employer-sponsored volunteerism. We also know how to have fun: Expect baseball, movies, and of course books!
