Mobile Developer - Remote

ReCollect Systems Inc

We'd like you to join our development team and help us build delightful civic technologies for thousands of cities around the world.

The residents that use ReCollect mobile apps LOVE them. Seriously, our reviews are off the hook. We're looking for someone to help us keep this standard.

As a ReCollect Mobile Developer, you'll help design and implement our mobile app platform, building accessible, easy to use, delightful mobile apps for cities across the US, Canada and abroad. You'll use some of the latest technologies, you'll share your experiences and wisdom building usable tools, and you'll get your hands dirty as we maintain existing tools and build new ones.

You'll have great peers to work with - folks who will understand the challenges we face and will help you grow and get where we need to be. Our development teams are geographically distributed, passionate about what they do, and have many years of telecommuting experience on highly productive global teams.

This listing is for a full-time position, based out of anywhere in Canada as remote telecommute. Please apply by December 14th.

What We Are Looking For

The right person for this job will have some experience in building and maintaining mobile applications. You will be comfortable hacking on both Android and iOS platforms.

You'll be a polyglot - someone comfortable working in several languages - who can build app code, or update our mobile build systems. You won't be scared off by the need to explore a large code base, fix bugs, and learn how things work.

Ideally, you'll have experience working on a distributed team. You'll understand how to keep yourself productive, happy, and healthy while working from your home-office or co-working space. When we get together a couple times a year for all-hands face-to-faces, you'll value the time with your awesome peers!

You'll have things to share and teach, and also a desire to learn and grow. We are all about learning and getting smarter as we build ReCollect! By the end of your (hopefully long) career at ReCollect, you will be happy, healthy and have lots of new lessons and learnings to share.

You must be prepared for hard work with our small team as we continue to explore new markets and customer segments. You should also be prepared to occasionally carry the weight for others and take on tasks outside of your typical responsibilities when needed.

We will support you with:

  • A stable and friendly development process and team. (Regular blame-free retrospectives, little-a agile, kanban)
  • A clear vision of where we want and need to get to. (Well communicated, stable, strategic priorities, no giant swings in the idea du jour)
  • Documentation on how existing systems work. (Wiki, Diagrams, code comments. Not perfect but always improving)
  • Excellent communication & dev tools.
  • Peers with many years of development experience.

We are looking for junior to intermediate candidates who have some experience with:

  • Android and iOS native development
  • App store and Play store release and debug process
  • Understanding a dynamic renderer
  • Mobile UX Patterns
  • Xamarin and C# background is a plus
  • UITest automation is a plus

And you will have:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest in the Open Gov / Civic Tech community

Our customers are mostly local government organizations, and you'll get to interact with them and help provide the legendary customer service that we have become known for.

Most importantly, we want you to be bright and fun. We also want you to care about a sustainable planet, improving public services, and growing.

If this sounds like a good fit for your skills, and you are up for a challenge in the civic technology space... please apply and tell us why you are uniquely qualified to join our team. Please apply by December 14th.
